Character Concept for Gruj (which looks better with two J's, but I didn't notice that until just now) AKA "A Bunch of Text That's Totally Not a Backstory"
Rough draft is that he saved a Jedi Shadows life on Nar Shadda through extensive cybernetic "upgrades". (Think Maul/Grievous/Vader levels of damage, though obviously with less talent involved in the "repairs", given the situation), after the Jedi lost a fight with (somebody that can be tied into the plot???)
Gruj took the opportunity to leave the employ of the Black Suns by accompying the injured, though now stable, Jedi Shadow back to the Temple on Bosan for long term upkeep of the indebted Jedi's cybernetics and "repayment".
Gruj has a respect for the Jedi's commitment to their code, but prefers results over a strict adherence to the Code.
He did not leave Nar Shadda on hostile terms, though he is still in "debt" to the Black Suns, who weren't very happy with his sudden disappearance, given the rarity of skilled Cyber Techs, and the fact he was still on retainer. He was, however, a mercenary, and not an indentured servant, so loyalty was never truly expected.
All information is subject to change, but that's what I'm working with at the moment.
Will also write in something involving his pack, as Ganks have very strong ties to their pack of 4-6 other Ganks, and are a very tight-knit species in general. For example, the authority of a higher ranking Gank from a different pack is recognized and respected by lower ranking Ganks from other packs, even if they've never crossed paths with each other. Rank is determined by the quantity, and the quality, of cybernetic upgrades. Ganks will not usually fight to the death in an engagement (at least, not their own death) and will likely flee with their pack mates if a fight isn't going their way. Ganks have a fear of Ion weapons, as they can render their cybernetics useless. As a result, Ganks rarely carry Ion weapons, and usually stay away from them.
Ganks are generally quite brutal, and prefer solving problems with extreme violence, regardless of collateral damage. For instance, they will often use explosives indiscriminately to ensure the death of a target, likely throwing grenades into a nightclub, or shooting missiles at a bus. Most Ganks revel in the extra bloodshed.
In the case of Gruj, he recognized the demand for violence that Ganks possessed as Assassins and Enforcers, but also saw that the indiscriminate nature of blasters and explosives prevented them from being hired in most situations. He instead took a liking to melee weapons and brawling, which allowed him to be as violent as possible in a public setting, and to also take his time with his prey. As a result, he gained a fearsome reputation as a targeted killing machine, who would approach his victim in a setting with as many witnesses as possible before ripping them apart. If the job called for discretion (something a Gank was rarely expected to achieve), he would instead leave his target in a place which they would soon be found after he left.
Due to his current employ under the Jedi, he instead prefers beating people unconscious and "fixing" them afterwards, so that he doesn't draw the ire of the local authorities. The Jedi begrudgingly keep him around due to his extensive familiarity with cybernetics, due to the frequency of injuries involving missing limbs which Force
Users are expected to both endure, and inflict.
